Head of School’ Mid-year Message to Students

Dear EIS Students,

It’s my privilege to commend you for your hard work and continued academic growth. You have persevered, overcoming one difficulty after another. Each of you can, and should, feel extremely proud of yourself! As I often say, your achievement grades can be a well-deserved source of inspiration, but they are not the most important thing in your life because “YOU” are the most important thing in your life. Above all, we care far more about you, as a person, than anything else. We are interested in your hobbies, friendships, future aspirations and most especially, your happiness.

At this stage, it seems that the pandemic might be nearing its end, allowing us to gradually return to normal school life. The thought of everyone being together on campus fills my heart with immense joy! Of course, transitioning back to school may not be easy for everyone, as we will suddenly have new routines and more social interaction. While this is exciting, it’s important to nurture our well-being as we adapt to this new normal. Well-being is a key component of our educational model because: i) every child deserves to be happy, and ii) it’s crucial for learning. Well-being is associated with positive relationships, creativity, contentment, confidence, health, productivity and better academic achievement. Where does well-being come from? It arises when we feel listened to, cared about and in control of our lives.

Our teachers and counselors have prepared some activities to help make coming back to School a positive experience for everyone. Nonetheless, it will be perfectly normal to feel worry or sadness at times. If this happens to you, try to remember that everyone experiences down moments and it’s always okay to ask someone for support. Your School cares about you, and we can help you.

Please let your favorite teacher or counselor know if you are feeling:
  • Lonely
  • Sad
  • Worried
  • Angry
  • Hurt
  • Scared
  • Tired
Please let your favorite teacher or counselor know if you find it hard to:
  • Play with the other children
  • Listen in class
  • Follow the rules
  • Do your homework
  • Sleep and eat well
  • Have fun with your favorite hobbies
  • Enjoy the company of family or friends

Going forward this semester, I encourage you to set new goals that are motivating, challenging and relevant for you. Aim for enjoyment and gradual improvement (not perfection). Compete with yourself not others. And, embrace your uniqueness. There is no one quite like you – and we like you just the way you are!  To close, I will share a poem by Roslyn Mansell:

Coloured Rainbows

Dare to dream of coloured rainbows
and fine “castles in the air” –
and a Sun that shines so brightly
making cloudy days seem rare!

When you aim to find a purpose
then your life becomes worthwhile.
You will dazzle those about you –
when you show your own true style!

Our dreams are not for keeping –
simply borrowed for a while;
to console us in adversity
and teach us how to smile!

Dream again of coloured rainbows
and of bluebirds flying high.
You will overcome the obstacles
once you decide to try!
