Title: Trading the Gift

This piece was inspired by the concept of suicide. Trading the Gift was influenced by the Sushant Singh Rajput suicide event, which shook the entire of India. Trading the Gift emphasises giving back life, the gift, to the so-called almighty rather than falling victim to an unforeseen chain of events if they decline the deal (struggles that come with life). This artwork’s narrative is incredibly grim, but the concept itself also takes a dark turn. For the background, I used an achromatic colour palette. This expresses the situation’s melancholy and gloom. The heart represents life; it is the only shape that uses monochromatic red colours to represent the value and significance of life. The hand reaching for the heart represents the almighty, while the hand giving away the gift (life) represents the decisions that the individual will have to make. This idea was inspired by one of the artworks I was researching, The Creation of Adam. The narrative from the art piece was included into my work. I used the similar concept of the supernatural and natural interacting, with the exception that my artwork was about life.

Title: Hope

Medium: Poster colours

Year: 2020

This piece was created on the concept of having hope. More specifically, having hope on Earth because this planet is dying. This is represented by the skull and a plant growing from it. It was a spontaneous painting with no forethought but just ‘hope’. The skull has an ochre monochromatic colour scheme. I used that colour scheme instead of the typical black and white to give it a sense of antiqueness. It also portrays ‘dryness’ and how ‘barren’ this planet is going to become if people don’t strive to conserve it. A little bit of indigo is used to create depth, light and shadow. If seen closely, the light comes on the exterior part of the skull, highlighting the chin, side of the skull and forehead.
