In the DP, we believe in fostering well-rounded individuals who can rise to challenges, collaborate effectively, and contribute meaningfully to their communities. The International Award for Young People (IAYP) serves as a vital platform to realize this vision. Also known globally as the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, the IAYP encourages students to step outside their comfort zones, discover their potential, and grow into confident, empathetic individuals. The program’s structure revolves around four core components: Skills, Physical Recreation, Service, and the Adventurous Journey. Together, these sections inspire personal growth, resilience, and a sense of responsibility. Here’s a glimpse into the transformative experiences our DP students have embraced this academic year.
Building Foundations with the Practice Journey: On October 19, 2024, MYP4-5 and DP2 students embarked on their Practice Journey at Sanjay Gandhi National Park. This day-long trip focused on developing essential outdoor skills, facilitated by expert guidance from the Army. Activities included:
Hiking
Route planning and navigation
Tent pitching
Team building and leadership exercises
Basic first-aid training
This experience was instrumental in preparing students for the challenges of the Adventurous Journey, fostering teamwork, problem-solving, and adaptability. It marked the beginning of an exciting journey of discovery and learning.
The Adventurous Journey: A Culmination of Growth: The highlight of the IAYP program is the Adventurous Journey, which our students undertook on December 15th and 16th, 2024, at Karjat. This two-day excursion integrates physical endurance, leadership, and collaboration through activities such as:
Camping and tent pitching
Stretcher-making and knot-tying sessions
Outdoor cooking
Stargazing and meteor shower observation
A challenging hike to Kothaligad’s summit
The journey aims to immerse students in experiential learning, allowing them to test their limits and discover new strengths. Under the guidance of Ms. Gauri, Ms. Khalida, and Mr. Ganesh, students navigated these activities with enthusiasm and determination.
Why IAYP Matters
The IAYP is more than just an award—it’s a transformative journey that prepares students for life. By engaging in activities that require planning, perseverance, and teamwork, participants build critical life skills such as leadership, problem-solving, and self-discipline. These experiences contribute significantly to their holistic development, enabling them to face future challenges with confidence.
As our students embark on this enriching journey, we extend our gratitude to parents for their steadfast support and encouragement. Together, let’s celebrate the spirit of adventure, service, and growth that defines the IAYP, empowering our students to pave the way for a brighter, more resilient future.
