Expressing Memories

This is a memory of mine when I just joined Edubridge International School. I was eager and curious to
learn different things here including art. I often heard about Mr Rajesh and how he’s a really good visual
arts teacher. I wanted to know more about him and learn from him. So, I drew an artwork of a girl with a
red bow and I showed it to him. He said that I had ‘potential’ and that’s why this memory’s stuck with
me till this day.

The artwork is done on a digital platform, Procreate on iPad. There are no explicit details to the artwork
however, it is done minimalistically. The colour scheme chosen is vibrant. The gridlines here show the
tiles of the lunch room. One of the figures in this artwork is cropped (extreme right). This shows the
intentional cropping done by the artist. The dimensions and the depth of the artwork is two
dimensional. The focal point is on the man turning his back and the girl in the foreground. The vibrant
colour of red and blue in the background balances the figures and the artwork.

This artwork was based on memories and storytelling. A memory from one of my memorable trips. I
have used a bleached and dappled effect. The color grey supports the rock in this composition. I have
used the acrylic paint on paper & I have used finger painting for the rock

These artworks that I have drawn were created last year and earlier this year. Art does just consist of
colour but also form, value, lines and space. The majority of these artworks carry no meaning. These
artworks are just something I drew in order to release my stress. The 3 artworks in the last row I created
for visual arts in the 8th grade. Art for me is so much more than painting or drawing. it is a part of me
and something so important to me. These artworks are very special to me as it was the only thing that
pulled me out of a dark place and helped me become a better version of myself.
The Anchor: it seems so simple and useless, but I drew it as my saviour. Something that helped me get
up and make me a better version of myself.

The Eye: It was something I felt earlier.

The Girls: They are how I portrayed the ‘girls’. They were either beautiful, perfect or happy, I did envy
them for a while until I found myself and could connect myself to them.

The Ballet Shoes: The ballet shoes are like my way out of reality. It helped me soar high and since I am a
ballerina I can dance and get into my own little fantasy world.

The Illusion Pole: This depicts how I used to run in circles for a while and how there was no way out.

The Pallet: This finally represents my way out of that hole. The patterns represent connection and
community and how my closest friend helped me throughout the way and I was back to my ‘normal’
lifestyle and just became a better version of myself.

The medium I have used for this artwork is my visual arts ook and art pencils along with a blending
stump. I created this artwork in 2020 and 2021. Nishka Dutt, MYP4, Visual Arts
